The UT100 also abbreviated as NASDAQ-100 is a predominantly technology-driven stock market index comprising of 100 of the biggest non-financial companies listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange. The NASDAQ-100 Index was launched on January 31st, 1985 and weights its constituents by market capitalization. The index does not feature securities from financial companies including investment companies but contains companies from a variety of other industries like technology, manufacturing, telecommunications, biotechnology, Media and consumer services. The UT100 is a good benchmark for investors that want to gauge the performance of the stock market with the exception of financial services companies. It is calculated under a modified capitalization-weighted methodology that puts limits on the weights to prevent any single company from having too much influence on the price.
